Teachers

Homer & Christina from San Francisco (website)

Homer & Cristina have over the years studied with numerous teachers as well as practiced extensively with each other and many other dance partners.  They have also traveled to many tango cities around the world, including two trips to Buenos Aires, and are ardent students of community politics, growth, and dynamics everywhere they visit.  They attempt to use this knowledge to positively influence the development of each tango community they subsequently visit.

As teachers, Homer & Crisitna are committed to creating a positive class environment and try to reduce barriers that may inhibit students from really finding their own dance! Small epiphanies can & do occur in their students all the time…
It has been said, on more than one occasion, that few dancing couples improvise with such skill, personality, and fluidity of movement. As each year passes Homer & Cristina continue to explore deeper facets of their relationship to each other and to tango.

Lastly, Homer is a student of learning how to play tango music for social dancers. His current obsession, started in October of 2009, is the bandoneon! Sometimes, Cristina joins in on vocals with her beautiful voice!

In 2007, Cristina experienced and recovered from a life altering kidney disease and, beyond her regular ‘tango functions’, is a hard-core student of Yoga and other body-movement classes.  Starting in 2012 she began the study of aerials and acrobatics (Homer became her ‘aerial-partner & acro-base’ in 2013).  She spends her off-time reading.

Nick & Diana from Denver (website)

It is impossible to ignore the inherent magnetism of Nick & Diana’s dancing and teaching.  From the moment they step onto the floor until they leave, you are caught in a story that is a discovery every moment, that you do not want to end.

As enthusiastic teachers, choreographers, performers, djs and musicians Nick & Diana are invited to tango festivals and workshops around the world.  To list a few of their recent endeavors: they have performed the show “Tango Times” with Gustavo Naveira & Giselle Anne at the St. Louis Tango Festival “Hot Winter Tango”, as well as at their own “Natural Tango Festival” in 2011. They taught and performed at the “Vantango Fest” in 2011. Also, they were special guest artists & choreographers for the show “The Tango Zone” in NYC in 2010.

Diana Cruz incorporates her multi-disciplinary techniques (including: Ballet, Contemporary dance, Modern dance, Latin American folk dances, Pilates, Yoga, Singing and many Tango styles) into one cohesive dance. She uses these techniques to create powerful, musical, unique performances. Her understanding of biomechanics gives her an astute approach as a tango teacher.

Nick Jones has been dancing & studying since 1996.  He was one of the first North American tango dancers to have been invited to teach in festival in Buenos Aires (Pulpo’s Tango Week 2005, 2006, 2007).  Leading the NaturalTango Orquestra has given him a singular look into the inner workings of tango music, and has greatly influenced his dance.

Nick & Diana share, unreservedly, their technique and structure so that each individual student can ultimately reach their own expression in the dance. They believe that the goal of a teacher is to give everything away to the student, while the goal of the performer is to hide their secrets so they can enamor and bedazzle the audience. Nick & Diana do both with fluid ease and grace.

John Miller from Denver

John Miller is a teacher, performer, and DJ who started Tango at the age of 18. Originally trained as a Linguist, he eventually found himself at the milongas every night of the week and decided to pursue a career in Tango over one in Medieval French studies. He has been teaching full time since 2009 and presently gives classes in Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Golden.
John is one of the most popular DJs in Colorado, and plays an average of 140 nights a year. He has DJed for numerous national festivals and milongas, including the UTango Festival in Salt Lake City, Burning Tango in McCloud, the Albuquerque Tango Festival, the Denver Tango Festival, Tango Encuentro in Boulder, and Mala Leche in New York City.
In his dance and in his teaching, John strives for clarity, precision, and elegance. In an effort to deeply understand the dance and the music, he has made an extensive study of the Golden Age orchestras and is learning to play the Bandoneón.

Christopher Neville from Salt Lake

Christopher is an incredibly passionate and talented dancer, who has done everything from DJing, teaching classes, running milongas, to organizing the last UTango festival. His DJing is always bright and energetic, and incredibly responsive to the crowd.
